Feedback from the ‘Community Events’ Survey

On September 1, 2025, we released a public survey asking for people’s input on what kinds of events they’d be interested in seeing us offer. On Halloween, the survey closed, and we collectively reviewed the results at our annual Samhain retreat in which our priesthood gets together to take care of bigger organizational matters, including what we want to do for the next year.

What were the survey results?

The majority opinions expressed in the survey were as follows:

  • A preference towards one-day events over multi-day ones

  • A preference towards virtual events over in-person ones, due primarily to geographical distance making in-person events difficult to attend

  • People’s interests were primarily in devotional events, followed by educational ones and thirdly by social ones

In regards to what the Coru could do better, by far the most common criticism was about communication: a) the lack of forewarning to give people time to get stuff on their calendars, and b) consistency in posting across platforms + emails. And you know what? …Yeah, that’s totally fair and accurate, ha.

Some Organizational Limitations

At our Samhain meeting, we discussed what we want the next year to look like based on the survey’s feedback, and also in consideration for what kind of resources are available to us.

The biggest barrier we have to take into consideration as an organization is simply limited availability by our members. As a small volunteer organization, all of our members have some combination of life-factors to balance with donated time and labor. But we’ve also all taken an oath of community service, and we all chose to join the Coru because of our passion for service with the Queen! So we carve out time and space to do the work, but not always to the degree that we wish we could.

So, what’s the plan?

We haven’t finalized the dates for everything yet (keep an eye out for announcements on socials + newsletter!), but here’s what we’re thinking.

For the cross-quarter holidays:

  • Imbolc: online, one-day devotional event

  • Lughnasadh: in-person, one-day devotional + social event like last year, but bigger and better

Bealtaine and Samhain are times when the Coru turns inward to focus on its religious obligations to the Queen and other gods, but we hope that because Bealtaine and Samhain tend to be more popular, with more events happening both online and offline, our community members can still find plenty of options during those holidays.

We will also be continuing our in-person casual moots, which happen every two months and alternate between a coffee shop (Cawffee Moot) and pub (Pub Moot) so that folks can choose their preferred environment for hanging out and chatting.

Finally, we’re considering testing out a new virtual event that we’re currently calling a Morrigan Practices Group. Because our members haven’t had the capacity to offer free, one-on-one pastoral care in the last year or two, and because there’s clear desire out there for connection with other practitioners, we wanted to try out a group discussion and learning format to address some of the most common questions that people have regarding a devotional polytheistic relationship with the Morrigan. It would be a combination of academic learning (as requested by the attendees) and practical troubleshooting for developing or refining a devotional practice as a contemporary practitioner, with a particular emphasis on the folks who have little or no experience.

This group will be a quarterly event (happening four times a year) for one year. Depending on how it goes, we’ll reassess its usefulness at the end of 2026 to decide whether it’s something we want to keep doing or if we want to put our limited resources towards something that our community finds more helpful. We’ll be releasing another survey at the end of 2025 via social media and newsletter, soliciting feedback on what people want to discuss in the first meeting in March 2026.

Other Events

These are just the things we’re choosing ahead of time, but some of our members have expressed interest in bringing back virtual crafting hangouts or another death cafe. We’re also trying to figure out additional devotional events without overcommitting ourselves to too many things all at once. This means that we’ll probably be peppering in other things throughout the year that we haven’t yet decided on, but we’ll do our best to keep in mind the (very accurate) feedback about actually promoting such things more effectively and consistently.
